Creatine Ethyl Ester (CEE) is Creatine Monohydrate (CM) with an ester attached. Esters are organic compounds that are formed by esterification, which is the reaction of carboxylic acids and alcohols. The theory behind CEE comes from some users' poor absorption rate of regular CM and improved absoption of CEE. For example as creatine draws water to the cell, some ingested CM may not absorbed. Therefore unabsorbed creatine can sit outside of the target cell with the water and this will result in the infamous ‘creatine bloat’. However attaching an ester to CM prevents this and improved absorption.
However these assertions appear to be anecdotal with many gym users stating that CEE is superior to CM and that they experience no bloating from using CEE. However at present there is no reputable scientific evidence to back up the claim that CEE is superior to CM.
Scientific evidence would therefore conclude then that CEE is only ideal if you have experienced bloating from CM usage.
Note: CEE has a bitter unpleasant taste
