Maltodextrin is produced through controlled hydrolysis of corn starch and consists of saccharides including dextrose, maltose, maltotriose and higher polysaccharides. Its structure allows for faster digestion compared to many complex carbohydrates, making it a convenient option for intra-workout or post-workout nutrition.
Due to its saccharide profile, Maltodextrin digests more steadily than dextrose, which may support longer training sessions or situations where a sustained carbohydrate source is useful. Great Product

Good post-workout and as sugar substitute
By: James Blaauw on 31 August 2016I take this with dextrose monohydrate as a post-workout drink. It helps with sugar cravings as well as picking you up after a heavy exercise session. Like the dextrose (and pretty much everything else on this site, to be honest) it's really great value for money.

This Maltodextrin probably represents the best val
By: Angus Rollason on 6 February 2014Wow. No other word expresses so easily and succinctly how impressed I am with this product. Just to be clear, when you press that little 'add to cart' button, what you're getting is 4.5KG of grade A+ maltodextrin, for under $30. I've been buying Professional Whey products for a while now, and I've always been entirely satisfied with what they have offered me. I tend to use a flavoured NZ WPC before the gym, and plain WPC in a blended smoothie of some sort afterwards.. However, with my new job I don't have the time or ability to have those complex carbs in a blended post-workout shake... So I looked in to getting something that I could easily chuck in a shaker with my current post-workout (cacao flavoured) NZ WPC, that would satisfy my macros and allow me to recover quickly on the run, and just get on with my day. This stuff ROCKS. I use 45g with 40g of my protein powder to create the PWO, and fill the shaker cup with water almost to the brim. It's incredibly smooth, digests really easily, and I feel my energy pick-up within about two minutes of drinking it - ideal just before I ride home/to work from the gym after a strenuous workout. It's slightly sweet in taste, and far from spoiling the taste of your protein powder it actually accentuates slightly the flavours (again, NZ WPC cacao here). This product is amazing. Get it. And for under $30, I think this 4.5kg bag is going to last you and me a hell of a long time. Grade: A+

Pure quality
By: Zac Mason on 23 September 2013This product mixes well with any whey protein, has little taste though I believe it does enhance the flavoured proteins such as vanilla and mint cacao. I won't have a shake without a serving of maltodextrin! Oh and the price and delivery out performs anything else on the market.

Note that unlike Dextrose, it does not have a sweet flavour - in fact it doesn't really taste of anything. If you are particularly wanting some sweet for flavouring purposes, better to go with the Dextrose.
